Style of Worship:

St George’s stands within the liberal catholic tradition of worship and theology. Its strengths include a diverse and welcoming congregation, dignity in worship, and its strong choral tradition.

Other Activities:

Our other activities include a youth group meeting on Sunday evenings, a Fairtrade coffee morning on Friday mornings (and Saturday afternoons between April and September (inclusive)), bell-ringing, a book group, film group, 18-30s group, and much more. Recently we have launched a group for toddlers and their carers which meets in the Church Hall on Monday mornings. We also provide opportunities for learning about the Christian faith.

The Church:

St George’s is a fine Grade 1 listed building of architectural interest built by the shipbuilder Charles Mitchell and consecrated in 1888 to serve the growing community of Jesmond. The campanile is modelled on that of St Mark, Venice.

The interior is lofty and richly decorated throughout, with fine stained glass and impressive floor and wall mosaics. It provides an inspiring setting for worship and also for concerts.
